About Reflexology

What is it ?
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive complementary therapy that encourages the body to balance and heal itself. It involves applying finger or thumb pressure to specific points, called reflexes, on the hands and feet. These reflexes mirror the organs and structures of the body and are linked to those organs by energy channels, zones or meridians. When illness occurs in the body, the corresponding energy channels become blocked. Reflexology is then applied to destroy these blockages, allowing the energy to flow freely again and therefore restoring the body’s natural balance.
Reflexology is also described as a holistic therapy and the term ‘holistic’ is derived from the Greek word ‘holos’ which means ‘whole’. The idea is that health is the result of harmony between the body, mind and spirit. Stresses of any kind, physical, psychological, social or environmental can upset the balance in our body. Reflexology helps to restore balance.
Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Reflexology is more a helping hand for the body’s self-healing processes.
Techniques used

Relaxation techniques are used at the start of each treatment prior to working specific reflexes with deeper pressure techniques.

Finger or thumb pressure using different techniques is applied to specific points called reflexes on the feet. Pressure is adapted according to each client’s needs.

Hand Reflexology
The hands are mapped in the same way as the feet with reflexes for each part of the body. However, the hands are not as sensitive as the feet. Although working on the deeper reflexes will be harder, hand reflexology still has a very powerful effect on the emotions and it is a very effective way to relieve tension and stress and restore calm in the body and mind.

The hands are also particularly useful for self-treatment.
Hot Stone Reflexology
The temperature of the hot stones are regulated in a specially designed bag to ensure that they are heated to 55 C.

Hot Stones are used throughout the treatment, allowing the heat to work the reflex areas and points rather than the therapist’s fingers and thumbs.

Warm stones can also be placed behind the neck, shoulders and hips to ease any stress/tension in those areas

This treatment is a great way to get into a state of deep relaxation.
